Authorities were alerted by two kayakers who discovered human remains late Sunday afternoon along the riverbank, east of the city.

According to police, an autopsy is set to take place on Wednesday. When contacted on Monday afternoon, the staff sergeant on duty said police would not be able to release additional information until after the post-mortem takes place.

The police department’s criminal investigation division and the Office of the Chief Coroner are both investigating and are looking to identify the person.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police at 765-5501 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
