Playmobil dark-skinned doll wearing ‘slave collar’ ignites outrage “Video”

A mother has described a Playmobil pirate ship as “racist” for including a dark skinned character with a slave collar.

Ida Lockett said her son got the Playmobil pirate ship as a gift for his birthday recently and had been playing with it. She didn’t notice anything was amiss until she started helping him assemble it. That’s when she found the dark-skinned character that had no shoes, tattered-looking clothes and a slave collar around its neck, CBS13 reports.

“It’s definitely racist,” Lockett told CBS News. “It told my son to put a slave cuff around the black character’s neck, and then to play with the toy.”

The ship also has a built-in dungeon.

The local NAACP is demanding action.

“This is deplorable; this cannot be accepted, and it needs to be pulled off the shelf,” Sacramento NAACP president Stephen Webb told CBS.

The station reached out to the toy’s maker, Playmobil, and Toys R Us where it was purchased. Neither responded.

Lockett said she’s going to return the toy to the store and ask that they “not support this particular product.”
