United Plane had to make a U-turn in the sky after an unruly passenger ran toward the cockpit.
The Boeing 737 had six crew members and 33 passengers onboard.
The “unruly passenger ran toward the cockpit screaming ‘jihad, jihad,’ according to a government official with direct knowledge of the incident,” CNN reports. “There is nothing, so far, in the man’s background to suggest he has a connection to terrorists, the government source said.”
Additional reports claim that passengers stated that he warned he had bombs.
A passenger’s cell phone video was uploaded to Reddit after several passengers tackled the man and restrained him.
Kimberly Gibbs, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, confirms, “A passenger was removed from the plane and transported to a local hospital for evaluation,” CNN further reports. The plane was searched, but no weapons were found.
The plane landed at Dulles around 10:40 p.m. (ET) and remained grounded overnight. No passengers were reported injured.
