Naked violinist jailed for plucking strings at Ore. courthouse, Report

A naked violinist was arrested in front of the US Courthouse in downtown Portland Friday afternoon after police received many complaints.

The man, identified by police as Matthew Thomas Mglej, was arrested for indecent exposure. Authorities said they are not sure if that is his actual last name.

City code says, “It is unlawful for any person to expose his or her genitalia while in a public place or place visible from a public place, if the public place is open or available to persons of the opposite sex.”

Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said the number of complaints, time of day and public location were factors in the arrest.

Simpson said police do not enforce the indecent exposure code during Portland’s World Naked Bike Ride as long as participants keep moving and stick to the ride route.

Mglej was taken to the Multnomah County Jail on one count of indecent exposure.
