Missing boys found alive in rugged Kentucky park “Video”

Two missing boys found alive after search in rugged terrain of Kentucky’s Red River Gorge area.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Joe Veeneman says the boys disappeared Thursday evening at the Koomer Ridge campground in rugged terrain in that area of eastern Kentucky.

Veeneman says 5-year-old Michael Esposito is from Batavia, Ohio, and his 7-year-old cousin, Adrian Ross, is from Bloomington, Indiana.

The trooper says the boys went to a campsite with their grandfather and Esposito’s father, and the men were setting up the campsite when the boys disappeared.

The boys have been found safe Friday afternoon after an overnight search.

Michael’s mother tells WLEX her husband and her father were setting up a tent and fixing dinner when the two boys went missing.

She says it appears a miscommunication between the men led to the boys’ disappearance.

“I think it was a situation where both of them thought the other one was watching the boys. And there were five boys, all running around like crazy, and you know, if you see three of the five at any given time, you don’t necessarily realize that two of them are not there,” Julia Esposito, Michael’s mother, said.

Veeneman described the terrain as treacherous in the area where the boys disappeared.

The Red River Gorge is a heavily wooded, rocky destination popular with hikers, campers and rock climbers.
