According to ABC News, the purpose of International Day of the Girl is to promote gender equality around the world and was designated by the United Nations as an annual event. In addition, Mrs. Obama is promoting her “Let Girls Learn” campaign to encourage and expand access to education for millions of girls around the world.
Mrs. Obama’s playlist included hits like “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, “No Scrubs” by TLC, “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Arianda Grande and Nicki Minaj, according to the Washington Times. She also had some classic soul tunes by Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Lauryn Hill.
The playlist was released by the White House, who recently launched its own Spotify channel.
Her husband released two playlists of his own on the channel that included hits such as “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by the Temptations, “So Much Trouble in the World” by Bob Marley and “Superpower” by Beyonce featuring Frank Ocean.
