Man Trapped in Sinking Car Rescued by TV Reporter “Video”

ABC News reporter Steve Campion even took his mike with him into the water to help a man from his sinking car, all captured on video.

Reporter Steve Champion earned his surname when, while setting up for a live television report, he and his camera operator saw a man unwittingly drive his compact car into a deeply flooded area of a freeway.

Champion yells to the man, who seems bewildered and confused, to “leave the car, swim!” Moments later, the car disappears completely under the water.

“I just thought it was a puddle, no more,” the man says.

It happened in the midst of historic, devastated floods in Houston, where more than a month’s worth of rain has fallen in under 24 hours.

The harrowing incident was caught on camera, as Champion made his report while helping the man to safety.
