Louisiana baby girl survives 3 days trapped beneath dead father

An infant survived beneath her father’s decomposing body for as many as three days, the Associated Press reported. The 10-month-old girl is recovering at a Louisiana hospital.

Jason Fields,43, had a known medical history, according to Rivers, and likely died instantly of a sudden cardiac arrest. No foul play or drug overdose is suspected. An autopsy will not be conducted due to the condition of the body.

Based on the condition of Fields’ body, Rivers believes he may have remained there on top of the baby for as long as 3 days. There are only box fans in the house, and Rivers notes that it was particularly hot inside the home.

Paramedics were called for the baby, who had begun to suffer injury to her skin because of the conditions she was in. She also reportedly suffered another injury to her body as a result of her situation that resulted in a “dark spot” on her body that was alarming enough for the child to be airlifted to University Health in Shreveport.

Her current condition is not known.

According to Rivers, Fields lived alone with the children, the oldest being around 4 or 5 years of age. The children’s mother was in jail, but after an emergency appeal to a judge, she was released a few days early to be with her children.
