Loads of porn videos are secretly hidden on YouTube, Report

Porn pirates are reportedly using a known YouTube backdoor to store infringing material on Google’s servers for free.

Usually when a video is uploaded to YouTube, Google’s hosting services scan the film using Content-ID software and compares it to others to spot copyrighted material.

This process also weeds out adult and abusive content that doesn’t fit with the website’s strict anti-sex rules.

These processes are only followed if a video is being made available publicly, however.

The problems arise when videos are uploaded not for public viewing, a well known backdoor into the video site.

Although these videos can’t been seen on the YouTube site itself they can be embedded on other websites using the YouTube player, avoiding YouTube’s Content-ID system or its administrators.

X-rated videos are some of the most numerous to abuse this loophole but they are not the only content to make use of the work around.

A mass of other pirated content, including feature films, have also been uploaded to YouTube’s video hosting servers.

According to California-based adult content maker, Dreamroom Productions, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find these unlawful uploads. They added their takedown requests often take too long for YouTube to respond to.

As a result, they described YouTube as “one of the world’s largest databased of copyright infringing material,” and called for the site to do away with its private sharing function.

“Copyright infringers take advantage of a private-video-share setting,” Dreamroom Productions told TorrentFreak.

“They upload and store videos, and freely use them on third party websites to earn profits.”

A spokeswoman for YouTube said: “We have teams around the world that review flagged content, regardless of whether it is private, public or unlisted. Content that violates our policies is quickly removed.”
