Glen Campbell Unlikely to Perform Again, Wife Says

Country music icon Glen Campbell will probably never perform again, his wife said Monday.

Kim Woolen claims Campbell’s Alzheimer’s disease symptoms have robbed him of his ability to recall lyrics and play the guitar.

“If I tune (a guitar) and hand it to him he can still play, (but) not like he used to,” she said, adding he can still “play a couple licks here and there, and he finds joy in that.”

Campbell now lives in a memory-care facility near the family’s home in Nashville. Woolen told People that the iconic singer and guitar player spends his time looking at pictures and sitting with her. She said she visits him for hours every day.

“It’s a very nurturing place … (and) he feels secure there,” she said. “I sit with him through his meals … we hug each other and cuddle. I savor every day.”

The Country Music Hall of Famer revealed he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, and his wife said watching him battle with the form of dementia has been “absolutely heartbreaking.”

“There’s a lot of sadness, (but) we just continue to try to make the best of every day and keep a sense of humor,” Woolen said.
