Authorities say two northwest Georgia women face child cruelty charges after an 11-year-old boy was found locked in a cage in a bedroom.

A deputy was called out to the 500 block of Bahamas Drive in Chatworth around 11:00 a.m. Thursday after a 911 call was made reporting a child had been left alone.

The deputy was greeted by an unidentified woman and a female child. According to the GBI, the deputy gave the all clear after seeing the child was with an adult.

Later Thursday afternoon, another 911 call was made by the same caller. That person requested deputies investigate the home further. The deputy arrived back at the house and saw the same child with Wanda Redferd.

The GBI said the deputy discovered two homemade cages inside the bedroom areas of the house and found an 11-year-old boy inside one of them. The other cage was empty.

Redfern was arrested and charged with cruelty to children and false imprisonment. The children’s mother, Stephanie Elizabeth Stone, was also arrested and charged with cruelty to children, false imprisonment and possession of a controlled substance.

Both suspects remain in custody. Officials said no bond is set at this time.
