CVS/pharmacy Partners with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for Thanks and Giving Campaign

today announced its annual in-store fundraiser for the tenth year to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Thanks and Giving campaign, a unique holiday program to raise awareness and funds for the pioneering research and exceptional care provided at St. Jude. Since the campaign’s inception, CVS/pharmacy and its customers have raised more than $37 million to support St. Jude, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.

Through Dec. 7, CVS Caremark colleagues will encourage customers to add $1 or $3 to their purchase at the register to support the campaign. Customers shopping online at www.CVS.com/StJude will also have the opportunity to donate $1 at checkout.

“The incredible support we receive from CVS/pharmacy and their loyal customers during the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign is critical in our fight to end childhood cancer,” said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude and daughter of hospital founder Danny Thomas. “St. Jude is where doctors send some of their toughest cases, because we have the world’s best survival rates. CVS/pharmacy’s commitment helps us continue that lifesaving work while staying true to my father’s founding promise that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.”

Funds raised by CVS/pharmacy customers and colleagues during the Thanks and Giving campaign support the CVS Caremark Rehabilitation Services Center at St. Jude. Children with deadly diseases such as cancer may experience developmental, cognitive or physical impairments because of their illnesses as well as the treatments used to save their lives. The facility in Memphis, Tenn., which opened in 2009, doubled the space dedicated to providing audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology services to St. Jude patients to help them overcome barriers they face in recovery.

“CVS/pharmacy is proud of its customers and colleagues who for nearly a decade have made a significant impact in the lives of children living with cancer and other deadly diseases through their generous support of the Thanks and Giving campaign,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President of Corporate Philanthropy and Social Responsibility, CVS Caremark. “As a pharmacy innovation company committed to helping people on their path to better health, we commend St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for all the work they are doing to treat children with cancer and the lifesaving research they share with experts across the world to help find cures.”

In 2012, CVS/pharmacy customers and colleagues raised nearly $6.4 million nationwide in support of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Thanks and Giving Campaign and more than $37 million since 2004.
