Ashley Graham throws shade at Victoria’s Secret Angels by getting her own wings

As filming for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show wrapped up in Shanghai on Sunday, Ashley Graham appeared to battle a bout of FOMO with humor while continuing to push for more curvy representation in the fashion industry.

Ashley Graham continued her fight against Victoria’s Secret’s lack of body diversity by Instagramming a photo of herself as a Victoria’s Secret Angel on Sunday night. Unfortunately, the presence of Ashley freaking Graham at Monday’s VS Fashion Show—featuring models like Karlie Kloss, Bella Hadid, and Lais Ribeiro—turned out to be nothing more than wishful thinking. The pic is photoshopped, pairing an outfit she wore for Addition Elle during NYFW with white wings. “Got my wings! 🦋💐🌈😜 .. my #AdditionElle wings! #thickthighssavelives,” she wrote in the caption.

Graham has vocalized her Angel aspirations before: During last year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show, she uploaded fan art of herself in a similar outfit, walking in front of the brand’s signature pink-and-white stripes under a sign that read “Victoria’s Secret Plus!” A few days after, she told TMZ she’d jump at the chance to walk in the brand’s annual fashion extravaganza. “When Victoria’s Secret calls me and asks me to be on their runway, I am going to say yes,” she said. Then earlier this fall, she participated in plus-size brand Lane Bryant’s #ImNoAngel campaign. The commercial aired during this year’s Emmy awards and featured Graham, Candice Huffine, Denise Bidot, and Danielle Brooks talking about their struggles to accept—and embrace—their bodies.

Graham isn’t the only plus-size model to take on Victoria’s Secret, whose fashion show of exclusively skinny women has been criticized for making viewers judge their own bodies. In October model Tabria Majors uploaded several photos of herself wearing Victoria’s Secret sets, side-by-side with the thin models who originally modeled them. “Maybe I’ll be a Victoria’s Secret Angel this year for Halloween, since it ain’t happening in real life lol,” she wrote in the caption. “Just paying homage to a few of my favorite pics/outfits from VS here and showing that curvy girls can rock (and sell) lingerie just as well as straight size models.”
