Alexandra Daddario: Star cast as female lead in Baywatch movie

Alexandra Daddario has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming “Baywatch” movie remake.

Alexandra Daddario will play a lifeguard named Summer, joining both Zac Efron and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the latter of whom confirmed the casting news in a post on Instagram, saying: “Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can’t wait for you guys to see her own the role.”

In addition to starring alongside The Rock in San Andreas, Daddario also appeared in the first season of HBO’s True Detective and Texas Chainsaw 3D. After The Rock’s announcement, the actress tweeted the following, with a humorous nod to Baywatch’s reputation.

Johnson also teases “some big casting announcements coming soon,” so be sure to stay tuned to IGN for future updates on Seth Gordon’s upcoming Baywatch flick.

Story details on the Paramount’s Baywatch adaptation have been kept under wraps, but the film is believed to be taking a comedic approach. Production on the movie is expected to begin early next year, and will be based on a script written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.
