AT&T plans to unveil a new 5G high-speed mobile in Austin before the end of the year the company revealed Friday.

According to an AT&T press release, AT&T plans to collaborate with Ericsson and Intel to work on 5G solutions in AT&T’s labs starting in the second quarter of this year, with outdoor tests and trials over the summer. The company expects to begin field tests in Austin before the end of 2016.

AT&T says it expects 5G to deliver speeds “10-100 times faster than today’s average 4G LTE connections” with latency in the range of 1 to 5 milliseconds.

AT&T acknowledges that making promises about 5G is kind of difficult when nobody has technically defined what 5G is yet. As such, after Verizon recently unveiled its own 5G road map, one AT&T executive recently proclaimed that “hyping 5G because others around the world are doing it is not the right thing to do.”

“We’re conducting our 5G trials in such a way that we’ll be able to pivot to compliant commercial deployments once 5G technology standards are set,” states the company. “The international standards body, 3GPP, will likely complete the first phase of that process in 2018. Meanwhile, we continue to evolve our 4G network to deliver higher capacity and the best experience for our customers.”
