Two tornadoes confirmed in Saskatchewan Sunday

Homes are wrecked and a community has declared a state of emergency after a weekend storm in southeastern Saskatchewan that produced two tornadoes.

David Baggaley, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says along with hail and thunderstorms, there were two instances of tornado’s touching down.

According to Baggaley. one was located around 10 KM northwest of Melville and it touched down around 4 P.M.

Another one was located south of Yorkton which touched down around 5:30 P.M.

Baggaley also said that, based on second-hand reports they have received, at least one building was destroyed by the tornado that touched down around Melville.

Trees, bins and bales are also said to have been tossed around by the tornadoes.

Baggaley mentioned the weather system which caused this extreme has moved onto the east and the forecast should remain “relatively sunny”.
