Toronto : Abused dog euthanized by Animal Services

City of Toronto officials are asking for the public’s help in finding out who left a dog with burns and broken bones so severe it had to be euthanized.

The city issued the appeal for information about the abused dog — a young, male, black labrador mix — on Friday.

Dr. Stephanie Sparling treated the dog and said it was the most severe suspected animal abuse she had ever dealt with.

Further tests and treatments at a clinic confirmed the dog had multiple broken ribs and burns — possibly chemical in nature — to 30 per cent of its body, including its head, ears and feet.

The dog was given antibiotics and pain medication but after a consultation with an internal medicine specialist, it was determined that the dog was unable to recover from its severe injuries and was euthanized on Thursday.

The case has been reported to police and the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Anyone with information about the dog or any other animal abuse is asked to contact Crime Stoppers’ Tattletails, a program for reporting abuse and neglect, at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
