Three RCMP officers injured in Alberta shooting, suspect dead

Three RCMP officers were wounded and a gunman was killed in a confrontation in downtown St. Paul Friday night.

RCMP Chief Supt. Randy McInnis told the Canadian Press that two officers were airlifted by STARS air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital while the third remains in St. Paul.

The gunman was reportedly killed on scene.

The bizarre series of events began around 6 p.m. as officers noted a black Dodge pick up truck speeding out of their parking lot. Shortly thereafter officers responded to a distress call. A subsequent call from a resident reporting a speeding pick up truck believed to be the same vehicle officers earllier noted.

Officers pursued the pickup truck which rammed a police vehicle injuring a female officer and started what proceeded to be a deadly shoot out on the street.

One female officer is in hospital in stable condition with injuries to both her legs after her vehicle was rammed. Another officer was shot in the hand and a third suffered facial cuts from flying glass.
