Saudi Arabian diplomat arrested for ‘erratic driving’

Ottawa Police detained a Saudi Arabian diplomat for impaired driving after a vehicle was pulled over on Bank Street at 9:30pm Tuesday night.

Police now say the 32-year-old man, who has full diplomatic immunity, showed signs of being impaired.

The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was released into the care of a member of his embassy.

CTV reports the man is from Saudi Arabia.

The police investigation into this matter continues and officers have been in contact with the Department of Foreign Affairs, However, as long as this man has diplomatic immunity he cannot be charged with drunk driving.
