BC man in positive spirits following dog attack

Police likely saved the lives of a Fort St. John couple being attacked by a pair of dogs in their home on Christmas.

RCMP in Fort St. John received a 9-1-1 call from a frantic woman on Christmas Day just before 8:00 p.m. The woman told police that two dogs had killed her cat and dogs and were now attacking her husband. The call then ended abruptly.

Officers rushed to a home in the 9200 block of 82nd Avenue and immediately saw blood smears all over the outside of the front door. Police entered the home and found a 51-year-old woman with multiple dog bites. Then the officers saw a 66-year-old man being brutally attacked by the dogs.

The man was seated in a chair and was not responsive. Police believed him to be in shock from the very serious injuries. Officers tried to get the dogs off the man but were unsuccessful so the dogs were shot at. One dog died immediately and the other escaped out onto the street with serious injuries. The second dog was located and humanely put down.

The woman was taken to the local hospital, but because of the seriousness of the injuries sustained during the attack, the man was airlifted out of the area.

This investigation is still ongoing while police are still attempting to piece together what led up to the attack and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 250-787-8140.
