Andrew Demboski: ‘Mississippi State student’ dies in fall from Jumbotron

Andrew Demboski, A 21-year-old college student in Mississippi has died after falling off the top of a football stadium Jumbotron video system.

Andrew Demboski and two other male students apparently climbed atop the Jumbotron located in Davis Wade stadium and he slipped and fell from a wide sheet-metal awning that spans the top of the display.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said no foul play is suspected and Demboski’s death was a “tragic accident.” According to Hunt, Demboski fell about 18 feet onto a platform, where his head made contact.

Firefighters at the Starkville Fire Department used relief tactics to get Demboski down from the platform on which he fell. Emergency response workers tried to resuscitate Demboski for about an hour while he was being brought to ground level but attempts to save him failed, according to Hunt.

A statement released by MSU’s Public Relations Director, Sid Salter, addressed the tragic events of early Saturday morning.

“MSU can confirm the death of a student in an apparent accidental fall in the early morning hours today on the MSU campus near the M-Club building,” read the statement. The student is Andrew Scott Demboski, 21, of Ocean Springs. He was a junior Environmental Economics and Management major in the MSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Andrew was a very talented student. Our campus is saddened by this loss on the day of Spring Commencement and we all mourn Andrew’s passing and are keeping his family in our prayers. An investigation into this incident is ongoing by MSU and county officials. MSU will have no additional comment on this matter until noon on Monday, May 9th.”

The incident remains under investigation.
