Singer Kesha loses her lawsuit against Sony and Dr Luke

Singer Kesha’s appeal to be released from her record label has been rejected by the court.

The ‘Tik Tok’ hitmaker has been fighting to have her contract with Sony Music terminated after she alleged she was sexually abused by producer Dr. Luke.

Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich noted that Kesha had “failed to plead that any of the alleged discrimination occurred in New York State or City,” adding that the case was outside the statute of limitations.

Kesha argued that she was a victim of hate-crime. To that Kornreich said, “Although [Luke’s] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do no allege that [Luke] harbored animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha.”

According to The AP, Kornreich also wrote, “Her claims of insults about her value as an artist, her looks and her weight are insufficient to constitute extreme, outrageous conduct intolerable in a civilized society. Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime.”

Of Kesha’s claim that she was a slave to Dr. Luke, the judge said that Sony did not push her to work with just one producer. Therefore, her rejection to work with other producers was deemed unreasonable.

Kesha and her legal team are yet to respond to the ruling.
