Police have named the four women killed in a horrific crash between a limousine and a pickup truck operated by an alleged drunk driver on Long Island’s North Fork Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred in Cutchogue, New York at approximately 6 p.m., according to CBS New York.
Seven women were in the limousine, along with a driver. They just left a local winery when a truck t-boned the side of their limo, which was attempting to make a U-turn. Three of the women died on impact and another died later at the hospital.
WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall stated that the crash was so violent that “it nearly cut the limo in half.”
The victims — Amy Grabina, 23; Stephanie Belli, 23; Lauren Baruch, 24; and Brittney Schulman, 23 — and their friends hired the limousine so that they could drink responsibly. Several sources reported that the women were part of a bachelorette party, although some who knew the victims told Newsday that they weren’t celebrating a wedding, but a birthday.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Steven Romeo, 55. The New York Post reported that he ran into the woods before police caught him. Newsday reported that Romeo was charged with DWI and pleaded not guilty.
