Woman Suffering from Amnesia, Cancer Turns to Social Media to Help Recover Identity.

Firefighters found the woman on Feb. 1 and rushed her to the hospital. She was barely conscious and couldn’t tell first responders any personal details, NBC San Diego reports. The woman says she ended up in a cancer unit and was told she has Stage 3 ovarian cancer, according to NBC San Diego. Doctors believe that may have caused her amnesia. The woman had surgery to remove a tumor the size of a small volleyball.

The woman has become known as Sam. She selected her name because of the biblical book of Samuel. She told NBC San Diego she’s relied on her faith. “I didn’t feel alone. It felt like someone was holding me and I realized that it was God,” Sam told the station.

Sam doesn’t know her name, her age, or details about her family and friends. All she can remember is what’s coming from her dreams. She remembers traveling to Perth, Australia and Hawaii.

“I can’t remember anything, (including) how I got here. I didn’t have anything on me, no jewelry, no purse, nothing,” the woman said. “There is this thick fog over my memory that’s over my brain that I can’t see through.”

NBC San Diego reports Sam has a thick Australian accent. Doctors have guessed she’s about 50 years ago. Sam is using social media to try and find out her identity and, as NBC San Diego reports, a person she might’ve been in love with.
