Woman caught going 220 kilometres an hour : OPP say

The female driver of a Mercedes-Benz will have to find different transportation for a while after Chatham-Kent OPP caught her on Highway 401 at a speed of about 220 km/h.

A Chatham-Kent OPP officer was patrolling Highway 401 Tuesday near Harwich Road. Just after 11:30 a.m., the officer saw a car that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

The officer determined that the car was traveling at a speed of approximately 220 km/h.

An OPP spokeswoman declined to say how the officer made the determination.

The 47-year-old driver, a woman from Tecumseh, Ont., east of Windsor, has been charged with racing.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.
