Tom Cruise reunites with Doug Liman to develop the director’s “Luna Park,” a sci-fic film about a group of scientists who plan a trip to the outer space to obtain an energy source.
The Wrap reports that Cruise is developing Luna Park alongside Liman, and will possibly (likely) star in the film as well. Liman has been working on Luna Park for some time now, with Paramount originally giving him the green light back in 2011 when Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield were eyeing lead roles. But the project stalled due to budget issues, and Liman went on to team with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow.
Luna Park centers on a group of rogue corporate employees who set off on a dangerous mission to the moon to steal a valuable source of energy. Cruise is shooting Jack Reacher 2 this fall and Mission: Impossible 6 next year, and recently wrapped production on Liman’s Mena, the true story of a drug-smuggling pilot who works undercover for the CIA.
Liman is in post-production on Mena now and probably won’t begin work on Luna Park until sometime next year, making it fairly likely that Cruise will star in the film.
