A three-wheeled electric microcar made in Vancouver debuted today, with an eye on the huge US auto market. The tiny battery-powered car is called the Solo, because it has just one seat.

Here are the basics, according to Eletra Meccanica. The SOLO uses a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery to power the single rear wheel with an electric motor capable of 140 lb-ft of torque and 0-60 MPH acceleration of around 8 seconds. The small runabout can be fully recharged in 3 hours via a 220 Volt power source. It can also be charged at a 110 Volt receptacle in twice the time. This personal EV can reach a top speed of 80 mph.

While SOLO’s small size allows for easy parking and good performance, it also offers a 10 cu-ft front trunk. It is fully enclosed to protect the driver from the elements. However, it is a three-wheeled vehicle, while classifies it as a motorcycle in states like Colorado.

The SOLO is being launched in Canada with a modest $194 pre-order money down with a promised delivery in calendar year 2017 at a price equivalent to $15,400 US. It will also be on sale in the Unites States.

What do you think? Do electric vehicles such as the SOLO have a bright future?
