Texas Officer who shot armed 93-year-old woman fired

A Texas police officer who shot and killed a 93-year-old woman last week has been fired.

A family member called police Tuesday, saying they had been threatened with a gun by Pearlie Golden. The investigation into what happened next is still underway, but Golden engaged police and she was shot and killed.

The shooting sparked outrage in Hearne and beyond with many questioning the officer’s use of force. Council members held an emergency meeting Saturday afternoon to vote on Stem’s future with the department. The issue was discussed behind closed doors with both the mayor and the city attorney. After deliberating for less than a half hour, council voted.

Tuesday’s incident was Stem’s second fatal shooting involving a suspect. He was cleared of wrongdoing in the 2012 event.

    1. Yet another example of police abuse. If this was anyone except a policeman, they would be charged with murder. Many people are in prison for only one crime yet most policemen hurt people everyday with no consequences. Who are the real criminals? Things won’t improve until we elect politicans and judges who will hold law enforcement accountable.
