SGI to start using facial recognition software next week “Report”

Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) is launching its new facial recognition software on Aug. 24, which will be in place when issuing new driver’s licences and photo ID cards.

SGI says when you get your new card, you won’t notice anything different and you aren’t required to get a new photo or card until your current one expires.

President and CEO of SGI, Andrew Cartmell, says this will enhance road safety because someone with a suspended or revoked driver’s licence won’t be able to get a new licence under a different name.

There is no added cost for customers and your licence and photo ID cards will continue to be valid for five years.
