Security Guard Injured After Being Trampled at Ultra

Security guard trampled by fans at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival

A security guard trampled at a music festival in Miami has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Crowds were trying to get into the Ultra Music Festival, billed as the world’s premiere electronic music festival, for free.

Those crowds knocked down a female security guard.

She suffered head trauma and a broken leg, according to Miami’s Department of Fire and Rescue.

The Miami festival has grown in popularity since its inception in 1999, but Miami’s Mayor Tomas Regalado has now told the Herald: “I think we should not have Ultra next year here. This incident should never have happened.”

The three-day festival, which has hosted around 160,000 fans this year, has been criticised in the past for excessive drug use, rowdiness and traffic issues.
Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff expressed sympathy for the injured guard, saying: “I feel horrible for her. We knew better and we should have done better for her.”

No one has been held in connection to the trampling, but 22 people have been arrested at this year’s festival on various unrelated felony and misdemeanor charges.

Avicii was expected to headline the festival on Saturday night, but was replaced at the last minute by Deadmau5 after being hospitalised with a blocked gall bladder.
