Police in the nation’s capital said they have identified the body of a man found in a park as that of a murder suspect who was the last person seen with a missing 8-year-old girl.
Police announced Tuesday morning that the man found dead Monday with an apparent gunshot wound was identified as 51-year-old Kahlil Tatum. Chief Cathy Lanier said his death appears to be a suicide.
Rudd was last seen on March 1 with Tatum, a custodian at a homeless shelter where Rudd’s family was staying.
Police say Tatum bought a container of heavy-duty trash bags, and was in Kenilworth Park for a period of time on March 1. Tatum continued to go to work through March 20. His wife was found dead in a motel the same day during the search for Rudd in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Tatum was wanted on first-degree murder and other charges.
Rudd is a black girl, weighing about 70 to 80 pounds. The FBI and DC Police say to call 911 if you see either of them or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
