Piglets Rescued After Indiana Highway Crash (Video)

2000 piglets rescued from overturned semi, This little piggy – and 2,057 of his friends – were trapped in a crash on a west Indianapolis highway Thursday night.

A semi carrying more than 2,000 piglets overturned on the ramp from I-465 northbound to I-74 westbound around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Wayne Township firefighters responded to the scene and worked quickly to rescue the piglets, which were trapped in the semi trailer.

“This is one for the books in the city,” the department tweeted as it shared photos of the rescued piggies.

The rescued pigs were being taken to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Police expected to keep the highway ramp closed for eight hours to clean up the crash – and round up the livestock.

No injuries were reported to any persons involved in the crash. At least 700 piglets reportedly suffocated while they were trapped.

The semi was delivering the piglets from North Carolina to Iowa.
