Oregon: World War II-Era Tank Explosion Kills Two People

Oregon authorities are investigating an explosion inside a World War II-era tank that left two people dead.

Paramedics at the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association firing range tried in vain to revive the victims.

It is unclear why the tank was at the range.

“I know that there was an incident, but I can’t comment on anything because I don’t know what happened,” COSSA director Bill Lewis told local newspaper website OregonLive.com.

Detectives from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police Arson and Explosives Section are investigating but authorities say there is no risk to the public.

No further details about the victims have been released.

The COSSA range is on 600 acres of public land which is leased to the firing range.

The website says the range is used by several law enforcement groups for training and practice.

It offers shooting distances from 50 to 1,000 yards and allows different types of firearms.

The investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office, as well as the Oregon State Police Arson and Explosives Unit.
