Americans Coming Out on Facebook in Record Numbers ‘Report’

Americans are coming out as gay on Facebook in record numbers, according to a new report from the social network.

In a recent blog post, Bogdan State and Nils Wernerfelt highlighted data that, according to them, revealed three major trends that seem to show increasing support for the LGBTQ community.

The first was the steadily increasing number of people who updated their profile to express same-sex attraction or a custom gender. Since National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11, 2014, the number of U.S. Facebook users who have come out has more than doubled, based on Facebook’s numbers. Roughly 800,000 Americans have identified themselves as members of the LGBTQ community in the last year, totaling more than 6 million users.

Another trend they identified was increased “likes” for LGBT-related Facebook pages.

In both cases, the date of the Supreme Court decision seemed to influence a noticeable spike in LGBTQ-related Facebook activity. Wernerfelt and State did note that other events that held significance to the LGBTQ community also seemed to influence those numbers.

“While this event marked the largest single increase in support for LGBT pages, we also see spikes on the Sunday following World AIDS Day (December 1st 2014) and on the day of oral arguments at the Supreme Court in the Obergefell case (April 28th, 2015 – though this effect may have been amplified due to Diane Sawyer’s interview of Caitlyn Jenner on April 24),” they wrote.

    1. This is not news, its propaganda. Facebook has been running articles related to liberal agenda for some time now. One would think that Mark Z is homosexual with this agenda.
