Mom jailed for breastfeeding while drinking, waitress who reported her fired

After a woman was found breastfeeding while drinking alcoholic beverages, she was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident happened in November 2013, when the mother of three was dining with her parents at an eatery in Conway, Ark.

Authorities say Adams was nursing her baby in her arms when Conway police officers walked into the restaurant and proceeded to arrest her. Reportedly, a waitress had tipped off the police to seeing Adams drinking beer while breastfeeding her 6-month-old girl at the table.

Adams was taken into custody and placed in jail. The arresting officers didn’t require Adams to take a Breathalyzer test. Apparently, she admitted to drinking the two beers.

Police charged her with endangering the welfare of her child. Adams has since claimed she didn’t know drinking the beer while breastfeeding was illegal. Just last week, Conway’s deputy city attorney dropped the endangering charge, citing there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that Adams was intoxicated enough to harm her baby girl.
