Megan Huntsman Killed 6 Babies, Appears In Court

The Utah woman at the center of a gruesome allegation — she claims that she killed six of her babies — appeared in court on Monday morning, but has not yet been formally charged with any alleged crimes.

Megan Huntsman, 39, was arrested in early April after her estranged husband found the bodies of seven infants hidden in the garage of her former home. Huntsman later told police she had given birth to all seven, and killed six by strangling or suffocating them shortly after birth. A seventh, she told police, was stillborn.

According to detectives, Huntsman has been cooperative with law enforcement so far. For now, police have named her as the only suspect. “We’re done talking to Megan. We’ve finished our interviews with her at this time. As far as motive, we are not prepared to talk about that yet,” said Pleasant Grove Detective Dan Beckstrom.

Preliminary autopsies have been completed on the seven dead infants, but it could take weeks to get the medical examiner’s report.

Police still do not know the gender of the babies.

DNA samples have been collected from the babies and from both Huntsman and West.

Some of the DNA from the infants has been damaged. As a result of the damage, the state plans to send DNA out of state for processing. There are no labs in Utah that are equipped to handle destroyed or damaged DNA.

Huntsman is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment next Monday, April, 28th.
