Kanata woman gifted $128K for treatment

A surprise donation of $128,000 from an anonymous man earlier this month will allow a single Kanata mom to undergo the aggressive surgery that could save her life.

“This was a God-given miracle,” said Stephanie Headley. “My life will literally be saved.”

47-year-old Stephanie Headley suffers from systemic scleroderma, a disease that slowly hardens the skin and organs.

A Chicago hospital offers a stem-cell treatment, but it costs $125,000 dollars U-S.

Headley’s family launched an online fundraiser for the treatment two months ago. Last week, an anonymous man arrived at her home and gave her a bank draft worth $128,000. He was wearing large sunglasses and a coat, and said nothing.

She begins three months of treatment at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital on September 22nd.

Headley’s family have kept the online fundraiser open, but will now only be asking for help covering medications, travel to and from Chicago, and accommodations for the personal caretakers that will accompany Headley for the three months she’ll be in treatment.
