Julia Busato, naked mannequin photographer banned from Facebook

A photographer whose work portrays the bodies of women “who don’t want to fit the mold” says she is “floored” after being temporarily banned by Facebook — again.

Julia Busato started the “Mannequin Series” a year ago after she was gifted a mannequin from a friend. Busato told the BBC she took the photos to “remind the world that beauty should not be defined by a strict set of standards applied to everyone.”

Feeling like she “doesn’t fit into modern society’s version” of what a woman should act or look like, Busato’s photos have been shared more than 200,000 times with women still asking to join the series.

But the reaction to her series has been met with criticism, especially on Busato’s Facebook page where she had been previously banned after some Facebook users reported her.

Busato said the negative comments have helped push the project even further. And for her, the Facebook ban is just a small setback — she says people have been reaching out eager to have their own photo taken and added to the series.

“Bring it on… it’s not stopping me,” she jokes. “I just want everybody to all feel good about themselves.”
