Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman escapes From Authorities, But Suffers Injuries

DRUG lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is believed to have been injured evading police in the mountains of north-western Mexico.

El Chapo, who escaped maximum-security prison earlier this year for the second time with the aid of workers, has been on the run from Mexican authorities in a continued massive manhunt to try and bring in Mexico’s most notorious drug kingpin.

According to NBC News, Mexican Marines stormed the Sinaloa cartel drug lord’s ranch in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains in western Mexico.

Marines encroached the ranch in helicopters, but after taking on fire from security forces who are suspected of working for El Chapter, they had to turn around. When the marines entered the camp on foot, they discovered that Guzman and his accomplices had fled, possibly on ATVs.

The raid on Guzman’s ranch came 8-10 days after U.S. intelligence traced phone calls pinpointing the location of El Chapo, per Mexico News Daily.

“As part of these efforts and thanks to intelligence and information exchange with international agencies, operations have been carried out across the country,” said a statement from Mexico’s coalition of federal security agencies.

The coalition’s statement also confirmed that El Chapo did not escape without suffering injuries.

“As a consequence of these actions and to avoid capture, in recent days the fugitive made a hasty escape, which, according to information, caused him injuries in one leg and in the face.”
