The typically uncensored “Fashion Police” host made some harsh comments about Adele’s weight during her appearance on “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

When speaking about her experience attending the Oscars, Rivers gushed that she got to meet Adele. But after Letterman replied, calling the singer a “lovely woman,” Rivers held out her hands widely around her and puffed out her cheeks, taking an obvious crack at Adele’s weight

“I met Adele,” she told the talk show host, who commented: “Lovely woman.”

“Oh, yeah,” said Joan, spreading her arms and puffing out her cheeks like you used to do in the playground when you were twelve.

She continued: “What is her song, Rolling In The Deep? She should add ‘fried chicken’.”

Cue boos from the audience and, sadly, a bit of laughing.

But Joan was just sharpening her tongue.

She went on to say: “She was very scared because she sang at the awards.

“She said, ‘My throat, my throat! I don’t know if I can swallow’. And I said, ‘Oh yeah, you can swallow’.”

It’s not the first time that the TV presenter – who hosts E!’s Fashion Police, alongside Kelly Osbourne – had made a joke at Adele’s expense.

On Oscars night, Joan tweeted: “On Sunday night, you could easily pick Adele’s Oscar statuette out of a lineup. It was the only one wearing Spanx.”

And when Adele gave birth to her son, Angelo James, in October, Joan tweeted her congratulations, posting: “Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound 8 ounces bouncing baby boy.”

We doubt Adele’s bothered, though – as well as being busy looking after Angelo and no doubt polishing her Oscar every five minutes, she also said last year that she would “only lose weight if it affected my health or sex life.”

Of course, Joan’s made a career out of slagging off celebs, and she had some pretty harsh words to say about Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Brad Pitt on The Letterman Show too.
