Hepatitis A Outbreak in Dawson Creek, Report

Northern Health has confirmed they are monitoring an increase in Hepatitis A cases in Dawson Creek, along with the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Health officials, along with the BC Centre for Disease Control. are monitoring an increase in cases and say they’re investigating the source for what they call a “seemingly unrelated clusters” recently discovered.

Northern Health says the viral infection can be ingested through your mouth from fecal-contaminated food or drink.

People are being asked to take precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Officials say the key is regular hand washing.

Northern Health is also encouraging residents to stay home if they’re sick and to contact a physician if you think you’re experiencing symptoms of Hepatitis A, which include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.

Symptoms can last for several weeks and as long as two months.
