Game of thrones season 4 : filming wraps! Now, the waiting begins

For those of you ready to dive back into the world of Westeros, there is at least some good news officially breaking today: You’re at least another step closer courtesy of filming for “Game of Thrones” season 4 finally concluding this week. This has been a long and extensive production as always, with it starting earlier this summer. Three countries were visited this year (down from four for season 3), and it included the rare visit to Iceland during the warmer summer months. (It wasn’t a Jon Snow sequence that was filmed there this time around.)

The production officially launched on July 8 2013, and this year the Game of Thrones team has filmed across three countries: Northern Ireland, Croatia and Iceland.

But even though the production period is over, we’ve still got a long way to go until Game of Thrones season 4 premieres.

Now, the extensive and grueling post-production begins, where all of the magic is made: the SFX team will have their hands full creating the amazing special effects we all take for granted when watching the show – and who knows what exciting new elements season 4 will bring?

As of now, we still have no specific premiere date for Game of Thrones season 4 other than spring 2014 – but looking at past premiere dates, an educated guess would be some time in early April.

Game of Thrones season 4 will roughly span the second half of the third A Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Storm of Swords.

The first episode is directed by series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and picks up after the shocking deaths of Robb (Richard Madden) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke)’ freeing of the slaves.
