Fox News : Ex-Fox Staffer Commits Suicide Outside NYC headquarters

The former employee of a Fox affiliate in Texas committed suicide outside Fox News headquarters, blaming the network for ruining his life. He claimed he was fired over a “sensational” Facebook post about the Austin police chief.

A spokesman with the New York Police Department confirmed that a 41-year-old Hispanic man appeared to have shot himself in the chest outside the News Corporation building in midtown Manhattan — which houses Fox News as well as The Wall Street Journal and 21st Century Fox — shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday.

The Journal identified the man as Phillip Perea, a former employee at a Fox station in Austin, Texas.

In the hours before the apparent suicide, Perea vocally criticized his former employer on Twitter and YouTube for having “ended” his career by supporting “workplace bullying.”

In a YouTube video posted on Monday morning, he referred to himself as a “martyr” standing up to “Fox’s obstinate position of not only ignoring workplace bullying, but also stand[ing] behind their management even when caught in … lies.”

“The simple reason why I was crucified was that I stood tall against workplace bullying,” he said in the video, while also demanding that Fox give $1 billion to his sisters in order to make amends.

On Twitter, Perea singled out Fox personalities such as Kirsten Powers and Megyn Kelly, as well as conservative pundits Rush Limbaugh and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) — who recently left his Fox show, for not listening to him before Monday morning.

The Journal reported that Perea had been handing out fliers accusing Fox of having “ended [his] career” in the moments before he shot himself.

He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, the NYPD said, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
