A man shot his neighbor during a dispute, put the body in the bed of his truck and drove it to his lawyer’s office.
John Marshall entered Robert Harris’ law firm around 4 p.m. Wednesday, claiming that he had killed Ted Hubbell in self defense in Bokeelia, Florida. He allegedly transported the body in the bed of his pickup truck.
“Marshall, told his attorney that he had wrestled the gun away from the other man and fatally shot him in the scuffle earlier in the afternoon, Harris said,” News-Press of Fort Myers reports. “Marshall, 52, had a swollen lip, a freshly missing tooth, another tooth that is chipped and what looked like two broken thumbs, Harris said. Marshall said he brought the man to the attorney’s office because he didn’t know who else to trust.”
Marshall had reportedly called the attorneys days before in fear for his safety. He allegedly received threats from this neighbor over a dispute over property work — and the lawyers advised him to get a restraining order.
Harris said, “It’s the cleanest-cut case of self defense I’ve ever seen,” News-Press of Fort Myers further reports.
“They don’t teach you about this in law school. That’s for sure,” Harris continues to share with News-Press of Fort Myers. “I believe we’ve handled ourselves correctly, but I’m a little in shock myself. This is not something that happens every day.”
Marshall already has a separate pending criminal charged involving an assault with weapon. Lee County Sheriff’s deputies have not yet publicly confirmed that he will not be arrested for Hubbell’s death.
