Calgary officials unveiled Wednesday the final concept for a $19-million bridge spanning the Bow River, linking Inglewood and the Calgary Zoo.
The bridge, which spans the Bow River near the Calgary Zoo, was built in 1908 and was originally designed to carry a horse and buggy and pedestrian traffic.
Now it’s become an important link for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians between Memorial Drive and 9th Avenue S.E. But it has outlived it’s lifespan, and the bridge’s narrowness means it can’t accommodate emergency or transit vehicles.
The bridge replacement will start next year and will provide two lanes for vehicle traffic, it will be flood resistant and will have pedestrian and bicycle access.
You can see the plans Wednesday night and give some feedback at an information session.
It goes from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre at 922- 9th Ave S.E., Alexandra Dance Hall.
