911 operator takes groceries to man who said he had no food (Video)

When a hungry, elderly North Carolina man called 911 because he didn’t feel well enough to go buy food, one of the operators personally delivered groceries to him, reports ABC 11 Eyewitness News (WTVD).

When Clarence Blackmon, 81, returned home after spending months in the hospital, his refrigerator was empty, according to WTVD.

He was unable to go to the store to get food, so he did the only thing he could think of.

He called 911.

“I can’t do anything, I can’t go anywhere, I can’t get out of my damn chair,” Blackmon said in his 911 call.

Blackmon asked the 911 operator if someone could go to the store and buy him some groceries.

All he wanted was a head of cabbage, some cans of beans and beets, some popcorn, tomato juice and soft drinks.

The operator, Marilyn Hinson, was moved by the man’s phone call and decided to help him.

“He was hungry” Hinson said. “I’ve been hungry. A lot of people can’t say that, but I can, and I can’t stand for anyone to be hungry.”

With the help of local police officers, Hinson delivered the food to Blackmon’s house.

Hinson didn’t stop there. She made the man a ham sandwich, which he called a feast, according to WTVD.

WTVD says Hinson also made him a couple more sandwiches for later on.

“It was like a little miracle ringing in my ear,” Blackmon said. “I thought, ‘Jesus, you answered those prayers!’”

Blackmon told WTVD that a home health nurse will soon be able to check on him twice a week.
