1600 people’s info accessed in BC prescription system breach, Report

There has been a major privacy breach in BC’s prescription medication dispensing information system. About 1,600 people’s personal information has been accessed.

The government says it’s found that someone used a doctor’s PharmaNet without his knowledge account to access names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, and personal health numbers between March 9 and June 19.

In the cases of 34 people, their medical history was accessed as well.

The ministry says the person wasn’t able to get fake prescriptions, but that enough information was accessed to be used for identity theft.

Those affected are being sent a letter, and will be offered free credit protection services.

They can also contact their local pharmacy.
