14 surgeries cancelled due to sterilization issue at Regina hospital, Report

Some surgeries are being postponed at the Regina General Hospital due to issues with the sterilization equipment.

Sandy Euteneier, Executive Director of Surgical Services says the hospital is working to resolve the issue, and should have everything corrected by Monday.

Euteneier says they’re working to fix the issue, but hope it was a one time event.

“There was too much moisture in the steam, so when the equipment packs came out they were wet, which compromises the sterility.”

Pasqua Hospital was able to take some surgery patients, and Regina Regional Hospital did have enough sterile equipment for any emergency surgeries that came up.

Patients with questions can call the surgical wait list hotline at 1-866-622-0222.
