Xu Xiaochun: CEO of cloning company vows not to ‘make Frankensteins’

A Chinese firm is building the largest animal cloning factory in the world, but you won’t see humans being cloned just yet, according to NBC News.

Boyalife, a biotech company in the city of Tianjin, is currently focusing on cloning cattle, race-horses, and dogs that could potentially become drug-sniffers for anti-terrorism squads.

In an interview with NBC News, Dr. Xu Xiaochun said “No, we don’t do human cloning, we won’t make Frankensteins.”

This leads me to believe that Dr. Xu Xiaochun is not entirely certain who or what Frankenstein is. Setting aside the obnoxious “Frankenstein was the scientist, not the monster” point, Frankenstein wasn’t a clone. He was a bunch of formerly dead body parts that were re-animated. If we ever do figure out how to do that, I think it’s a technology worth exploring. As for human clones, he should have said stormtroopers. Everyone knows that right now, the best way to get your message heard is to somehow find a way to tie it in with Star Wars. Since the stormtroopers started out as clone troopers, wouldn’t it have been better to promise not to raise an army that will lead the fight to establish an evil empire to rule over us? That’s a company I’d support.

Boyalife is actually doing some pretty remarkable stuff, including cloning cows in order to keep up with China’s rising consumption of beef products. They also plan on cloning detection dogs to be used for police and anti-terrorism purposes. NBC News says there are already “about 600 cloned dogs working globally.”

With the completion of this factory, we’ll be one step closer to that dystopian future we’ve all been promised. I’m very much looking forward to it.
