An image of the Nile River was captured by the new Sentinel-3A satellite and it appears to show the river running red with blood.
The photo conjures up images ripped straight from the bible. Turning water into blood was one of 10 horrible plagues God struck down upon the cruel Egyptians to coerce them to free the Israelites from slavery. So, this must be a sign of God’s wrath, right? It’s not.
The pic was snapped by the satellite’s infrared radiometer to highlight areas of vegetation, Fox 31 news reported today. It’s not even the Nile that’s giving off such sanguine glow. It’s big strips of plants. The Sentinel-3A’s orbits Earth and provides clearer data on shifts in agriculture, topography and oceanography.
The ESA also hopes that their eye in the sky will provide more essential information on our ever-changing ocean and weather patterns. It might also help prevent wildfires by examining at risk vegetation, The Weather Channel wrote.
